Christmas 2004
Since I had so many holidays left this year, I thought I would go somewhere. Some place a little bit more adventurous and exciting than just going home. I had lots of ideas, like Iran, because Stine has lots of stories from there. Iran is a little tricky though: very interesting, but a lot of work with visa and stuff like that, and not straightforward when it comes to tickets, and just kind of a hassle. Then other places came to mind, like Lebanon. I was reading about Lebanon oncem in GEO, when I was at the hairdresser. Looks nice, a country you hear a lot of, but don't really know anything about. And the Lebanon conflict is just a little too long ago for us... kids. Then Egypt, Vietnam, Australia, China and lots of places came to mind. Finally, Morocco. Places like Tangiers, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Fes sound interesting. Cheap flights from Geneva, no visa, no vaccines, and still exotic, off the beaten track, close and far away at the same time. Nobody to go with though! Everyone is either broke, has exams or just don't want to go. When I was complaining about this to John, he said "Zoë might want to go. She was planning on going to India for christmas, but I guess it didn't work out." Yesterday morning I sent her an email, more or less asking "I'm going to Morocco, or any other cool place. Do you want to come?" And boom, 8 hours later we had booked tickets Geneva Marrakesh! Yay! Kudos to Zoë for express decicion making! So now turkey and porc ribs have to yield for Moroccan couscous and waterpipe, christmas tree and santa claus for medina and hammam. Who would've though!
