Actors - back and forth in time

Recognizing actors is kind of a tool when you watch movies. When I for instance watched Emmet's Mark the other day, there was a scene where our guy is at a diner or something, and then we see this other dude. When you recognize him, you understand that he is going to play an important role. I'm also very poor at remembering the character's names if I don't see a movie with subtitles (verbal messages are no good to me), and then again it's nice to know the name of the actors. Then again, it might take some of the charm, and magic of the movie away, if you think too much about the real person. Mission Impossible III might, for instance, not be the same if you picture Tom Cruise eating Kate (she changed her name, and I'm not proud to admit I know this) Holme's placenta.

Then again, some times I can watch a movie for the second time, and realize there are people in it that have become more famous in the mean time. This might mean that they are more "famous" only to me. For instance, the other day I saw parts of "Romper Stomper", with Russell Crowe. This was back in 1992, but the first time I saw Romper Stomper was not long ago, so I was familiar with Russell Crowe. On the other hand, Jacqueline McKenzie showed up as Gabe this time. In a very blond and young version, but nonetheless the same as "4400" series' (of which I missed the last two episodes) protagonist Diana Skouris, only a decade - and then some - later.

Watching movies again with a different perspective could be interesting though. Some times movies can be made with many perspectives built into them. Yesterday, for instance, I saw "The Hours". This is basically the movie based on a book about a book, and this second book is about the writer, a reader and a character of the first book (Mrs. Dalloway / Virginia Woolf). Now, that's kinda complicated ;) I actually bought "The Hours" yesterday, along with "Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo" aka "Brotherhood of War". I think that's a pretty wide scope, as movies go. Broad Education.
