Football fans and police in mini-clash in Malmö

I'm still in Malmö, and John and I were strolling around in Malmö's beautiful town center, looking for some necessities for our broad education, when some mounted police officers trotted past us. Without really paying attention to it, we naturally were headed in the same direction, and soon enough we encountered quite a crowd of police, like 5 or 6 police vans and cars, and something happening behind a herd of watchers.
We saw a couple of guys being arrested, and the Danish flag in the background. This was about all I could bear before I asked someone what was happening - and of course, there was a football game coming up the same evening, and Helsingborg supporters were in town, having a few drinks at a pub, shouting things like "We hate Malmö", "We hate MFF", and "We love HIF" ("Vi hatar Malmö", "Vi hatar MFF" och "Vi älskar HIF".). The rest the story is of course obvious, and two people were arrested for throwing bottles or something (Sydsvenskan).
The reason why they use the Danish flag is rather unclear to me still, but Helsingborg is the Swedish town closest to Denmark, but that's no excuse...

Anyways, I read once that a mounted police officer was equal to nine on foot when it comes to dispersing a crowd. The New York Times has a similar story on this, although they claim 10 is the magic number. A horse has a lot of authority in a non-violent manner. A big beast like that automatically creates a little perimeter around it, that the police man on foot would have to get out a baton to get. It was kinda fun to see though.
See all the pics.
