Flickr would be great it it weren't so stupid. It's free, though when you choose not to pay, you have a 20 MB per month upload limit. That's upload limit, not space. If you delete something you won't get your bits back. You also have a limited number of sets, which is annoying, for while Flickr is good as a catalogue where you can search through pictures by tag, popularity, and so on, it gives you no good way of presenting pictures the way you want. It appears cumbersome and chaotic to visitors. Flickr seems to think 25 $ is really cheap per year for their service. I don't. Especially since most people are having trouble with their uploader software, which is really the only way if you've paid and want to upload a lot of files.
And now I've discovered that for free users they only allow 200 pics! That's frikkin annoying, and they don't even tell you! They just disappear. Well, not totally disappear, but they're not yours anymore. Not until you pay. So if I look into my tags now, the "Aalborg" tag is big, becaues I have taken lots of pics tagged "Aalborg" lately. But if I click it it says I have "no pics labeled Aalborg, but others do". And then I can see mine among the others. It's lame. Especially since it's not really mentioned.
The reason why I stared using Flickr was that the way stupided Aalborg University blocks all ports so I wasn't able to use ftp. Now that AAU is no longer a problem, I can go back to posting pics the way I was used to, with Web Album Generator, and posting them to UiO. I loose simple upload, and intellingent sorting. But I get a sleeker presentation. And it's free.
RIP Flickr.
