An American in Malmö

Right now John is having a friend over from the United States of America. This dude came here early yesterday morning, and since he'd be jet lagged John played Civilization all night to be on the same "track".
Jeff works at a well known graphics card developer, adding a whole new layer in the conversations that freak out Hannake in their sheer nerdyness.

This morning we had to leave the house, as occupants had invaded our kitchen. Since there's a festival, and we have Malmö to show to Jeff, that's not a problem. Now he's experienced all the wonderful things: like Falafel No. 1, John's coffee peeps, H&M, the pedal boats, Systembolaget. Sweden.

Yesterday though, we witnessed a nerdy, but highly cultural event, the Joystick concert by the Malmö SymfoniOrkester — they were playing computer music from late 70s to present. It was wonderful! A hybrid culture, where the nerdy dude that have stayed indoors most of their life — and the ivory tower musicians meet and interact in the town square for a mutual recognition of our civilization's finest values. I also like the music (title music) for Civ IV that I found online. It's less beepbeep and more real. I think. Like they put some effort into it. Jeff Briggs is in charge of music for Civ IV and is the CEO of Firaxis, and used to work for Microprose in the good old days (Civ 1), but he originally worked with music and is a doctorate of Musical Composition and Theory.

The Other John (TOJ) who's alway been into computer game sounds and music was of course extatic. He was bouncing through the crowd "like a gas molecule" he said, reminding me of a quote from Alpha Centauri:

As distances vanish and the people can flow freely from place
to place, society will cross a psychological specific heat
boundary and enter a new state. No longer a solid or liquid,
we have become as a vapor and will expand to fill all available
space. And like a gas, we shall not be easily contained.

"But for the Grace of God"

Conversation nerdiness is peaking.

After playing a little too much Civilization, John and I have become a little difficult to be around - relating most stuff to game concepts. John's especially evangelic.

This picture of my civ-eyes is taken at 04:41. Sore eyes
Eyes are getting sore. There's a place for help... Learn the truth about Civilization.
