"Boycott Israel"

Malmö is never quiet. And why should it be? If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention. Lebanon is being shelled to pieces, and almost 1000 civilians are killed — the Lebanese and sympathizers in Malmö are taking to the streets to show their disgust with Israel, Bush and the US.

Boikott Israel

John and I ran outside to watch the demonstration. We didn't join though — even though I have no problems protesting the war, I don't want to should "Long live Hizballah". So I quietly walked on the side — taking pics.

I thought it was Douglas Engelbart who coined a term that described a political/social problem that is almost impossible to solve, or one in which even the way the problem is stated involves contradictions and/or conflicting viewpoints, but now I can't find any reference to it. However, this war sure looks like it.

On the one hand, we have Hizbollah which is an antisemitic, terrorist organization. At the same time they provide welfare benefits the Lebanese state can't provide, but most outsiders just see terrorism. Then again they're supported by Iran and Syria who're using them to wage a sort of low-intensive war against Israel.

And then there's Israel itself, clearly built on the idea of a nation state for one people, an idea almost universally derided by the enlightened elites of the West, though constantly reappearing under different guises in other parts of the world.

Sorry for this rant, I have no answer to any of the problems, really... :)
