Pot stickers

To make the transition to China as smooth as possible, John's decided to make some Chinese food. Pot stickers were today's choice. Preparing this meal took quite a lot of time, especially considering we all had to make them, once the stuff was on the table :) But that was fun.

Basically a pot sticker is a Chinese ravioli. But the dough, or the pasta is is made with water and flour only, which is good news for all the vegans. John spoiled it for them by making a filling mostly consisting of pork though. This he seasoned with coriander, spring onions and "Old Stepmom's hot stuff" that John got one of the Chinese stores, or Asia Trading or whatever, down the street. This goo is hot stuff, and pretty good. That's no surprise, knowing that the more than 300 workers in the factory in China "performed on the spirit of 'credit first and to pursue the practical progress'". And "Tomorrow A series of chili foods with high additional value is going to be developed, and an'aircraft carrier'of chili processing industry is being under construction."

It's nice to know that somewhere in China, someone is making jars of spicy paste, and not wasting time on translations.

But John did good! The food was good! And a lot better than the movie we went to see after: Miami Vice. Don't get me started.

Apropos the jars of spicy paste: it's one of my favorites, and it's really popular here: Lao Ganma, Old Stepmother. It's one of the few Chinese brands that seem to be as popular abroad as it is here.

Oh, by the way: when you come to Beijing, don't miss biangbiang-mian :) :
