Restart

After a large sampling of Chinese dishes, my system was getting slow, and ultimately very unstable. Now I'm rebooting, eating nothing but white bread, yoghurt and water, watching CNN on the hotel TV and enjoying the luxury of big towels.

Shanghai is crowded, and skyskrapers are popping up everywhere. A photographic series outside the museum we went to today shows how the Shanghai skyline has changed over the last 12 years, skyskrapers everywhere, and the water is getting browner and browner.

The architecture in Shanghai is weird, with lots of colonial weirdness and randomness, lots of flashy neonlights and general tackiness. Today I've ventured outside and John and I are headed for the Cloud 9 bar, on top of one of the tallest buildings in Shanghai. Probably we'll have to get a ridiculously overpriced beverage to enjoy the view of Shanghai from above by night. Yesterday, Joens, John and his mom and friend went to the Pearl TV Tower to get a bird's eye perspective, but paying 35 USD to get to the buffe sounded like a terrible investment, for someone who gets grossed out of the idea of food. But it's all better now.

Human technological achievement with a frosting of gaudy blinking.
(TV tower. Shangri-La. Some building with walls that are also screens for commercials)
